“THROUGH TRAFFIC”
WHY NOT VIA WAKEFIELD STREET?
A Wellington motorist has made the suggestion that “through” motor traffic to Thomdon, Hutt, or the Western suburbs, ought to proceed via ' Wakefield Street and Jervois Quay, thus reducing the congestion in the two narrowest streets in the city, Willis and Manners Street.
When the suggestion was submitted to a member of the By-Laws Committee of the City Council, which deals with traffic matters, the council agreed that it was a good one and would certainly help a good deal if effect could be given to it. He thought a prominent notice might be put up near the morgue drawing tiie attention of motorists to “through traffic this way,” and an arrow directing the route, and a similar notice might be placed on one of the lampposts at the end of Kent Terrace, also directing through traffic via Wakefield Street. He thought the Automobile Club could render some assistance in the matter.
