OUR CRICKETERS

THE MATCH IN SYDNEY Many of us had been hoping that the Kew Zealanders on their way home from England would play matches in Adelaide and Melbourne, as well as the one against New South Wales in Sydney (states a writer in tho "Sporting Globe"). From what I can gather, however, there is little chance of this. Tho New Zealanders, it is understood, cannot spare the time for more than the one match. This is to be regretted, for as a result of their experiences in England, they should be a much better team than when they left. Three or four matches by them would have helped to make the season here a much more interesting one. Now that the Now Zealanders have widened their outlook, and extended their experience in international cricket, it is to be hoped that they will continue to seek the wider sphere for their activities. It is stated that the tour of England is sure to result in heavy financial loss, mainly as a result of the very wet Bummer, but the loss should be counterbalanced by tho improvement in the standard of play that must -esult. Australia. of course, will doubtless provide the New Zealanders with most of their international experience for some years to come, and it is to be hoped that the proposals for regular visits between the two countries will bear fruit The more big match play the Dominion men can get, the more they are likely to improve, and regular matches between New Zealand and Australia must be to the advantage of both countries, although for some years, at any rate, the New Zealanders can hardly hope to extend our men very seriously.
