“LITTLE MISS WELLINGTON”

Sir, —I hope 1 shall not be considered impertinent if I venture to make a suggestion to the people of Wellington. I am not altogether unknown in your »itv> and there are many reasons why 1 should entertain a genuine feeling of affection for this city. One of my chief regrets is that circumstances have always prevented me coming here to live. There is a little girl here (I saw her again to-day, and heard her, too) who is nothing short of a genius. Not only is she a born actress, but her personality is such that to see her once is to love her for ever. I know there are manv sweet and beautiful children in Wellington, but this one stands apart. I refer to little Ismay Mcllroy, eight years of age, sweet and unspoilt, and phenomenally gifted. She is the only genuine successor to my dear little friend, Cecil Haines. I know how generous Wellington can be to her children. aud I respectfully suggest that the city should adopt this little won-der-child as its own, and call her (as indeed she is) Little Miss Wellington. This means raising a big fund for her education on thoroughly sound linos, and at the same time seeing that her dramatic and artistic genius should be thoroughly developed under the best possible conditions. After seeing her again at the present competitions I am sure her present teacher deserves the highest possible praise for what she has already done. I am now rushing to catch a train, and so I must apologise for this hurried letter. I trust that I shall lie pardoned if I seem to intrude, but my admiration for this little genius compels mo to write. I shall always feel glad to contribute to any fund that mav be started. —I am, etc.. J. F. MONTAGUE. Wellington, September 9.
