HUTT ROAD RISKS

Sir, —May I draw attention through your columns to the necessity for the exercise of greater vigilance on the part of the signal men on duty on the Hutt Road (luring the operations connected ■with tile removal of the spoil from the big slip? This appears .to be especially required during the 8 a.m. to 'I a.m. traffic, which is fairly continuous. This morning the leading car of a procession of three was stopped at the Kaiwarra reclamation deposit gate with such suddenness that the second car bumped into it, while the third car bumped the second. As all three ears were proceeding at a slow pace the damage sustained by each was not very serious. The first got off with a bent mudguard, the second’s tank was badly dented, while the third will require a new windshield and a radiator screen A little more alertness on the part of the signal man at that point might, it seemed to those concerned, have prevented the accident.. —I am, etc., ONE OF THE VICTIMS. Wellington, September 12.
