As there is only about threepence a bushel difference between the price of fowl wheat and. the best milling wheat, from which the finest white bread is made, Auckland brokers think it is time some protest was made (says the “Star”). The Chamber of Commerce •wag appealed to, and in a report preeented at last week’s meeting of the council it was suggested that the duty on imported fowl wheat should be Is. a cental instead of the present 2s. Th. price was becoming prohibitive to pdul. try-keepers, and in the case of a shortage the imported fowl wheat should be allowed in free of duty. One of the members suggested that the - price of fowl wheat was getting so ridiculously high that the only thing left for poul-try-keepers to do was to wring the necks of.the fowls; it would be impossible to carry on. The council decided to wait and see what the Government proposed in the revised Customs tariff before taking any action.
