PAVING DAMAGED
SURFACES BROKEN FOR PIPE LAYING.
At the meeting of the Civic League last night, on the motion of Mr. A. D. Howitt, it was resolved: That tin* league requests the City Council to obtain a report from the city engineer on the best method of laying drainage., gas. water and other pipes m the streets and footpaths, before the permanent naving ami sealing is carried out;, to prevent as much as possible the break in" of these surfaces later on. Mention was also made of sitv for the council to deal with the question of deep drainage to some of ; outlying districts. Mr. Jones urged that within the next five years this matter would be a most serious one for the city.
