Edward Dvson, a labourer, aged L), was fined 10s., in default 48 hours’ imprisonment, for a second offence ol drunkenness, and fined £l, in default three days’ imprisonment, for casting offensive matter. ... < Frederick Bartlett pleaded guilty to stealing a leaden sink, valued at 19s. lOd the property of the city tramway’ department. Sub-Inspector Harvey stated that defendant was a carpenter on a job where the sink was taken out and placed in the backyard He had taken it away and sold it. He had afterwards admitted the crime and paid back the money received. Ihe Magistrate fined him £o, in default one month’s imprisonment. I?or procuring liquor while prohibited it being the. sixth breach of his order, John Edward Byrne was fined £2, in default seven days’ imprisonment. .Al John Archer #Logan and Albert Abdulla Owen were charged with breaches of the Legislature Act. The second defendant had signed his . mother’s and father’s names (they being unable to write) to a claim for enrolment on the electors’ roll, and the-former had signed the form as having witnessed the signatures. Sub-Inspector Harvey stated that the case was brought as a warning to others, and he did not press for a heavv penalty. Each accused was convicted, and' ordered to pay costs. James Patterson was fined £2 for being on licensed premises after hours. Mrs. E. Manchester was fined £2 for failing to close her shop at Karon on the statutory holiday.
