A PETITION FOR MONDAY OBSERVATION Whilst in Auckland the Mayor (Air. C. J. B. Norwood) had forwarded to liitn b* the Wellington town cleu a petition bearing over two thousand signatures, praying that he should use ( 1S weight and ’ influence as Chief Magistrate of the citv to have Anniversary Dav kept up as a holiday on Monday next instead of to-day. He stated that cs the various industrial awards in force in Wellington definitely fixed Anniversary Dav as the statutory holiday, no opinion or appeal of his could relieve employers from their obligation of having to observe the holiday to-day. “Personally, however.’’ said the.
