EMPIRE GOODS

MEMORANDUM OF PRODUCERS’ ASSOCIATION PREFERENCE ADVOCATED IN TARIFFS AND INCOME TAX By Telegraph.—press association. Copyright. (Rec. October 11, 8.15 p.m.) London. October 11. “The housewife bolds the key to the situation,” says the Umpire Producers’ Association's memorandum, prepared for submission to the Imperial Conference. It says that vigorous advertising of Umpire produce is needed, but the first appeal must be made to the housewife. Further than that, advertis ilg should be in the hands of pro ducers. The memorandum in the first place advocates Umpire preference, not only in tariffs, -but in income tax, on Empire investments, as compared with foreign, also in materials used in Gov eminent ami public contracts. Statu tory sanction should be given to producers’ organisations to enable them to act comprehensively. like the New Zealand Meat Board. The conference is invited to consider the necessity of fast refrigerated ships in the Australian and New Zealand trade, and to give approval to the contemplated Imperial producers’ Conference. Ttie Duke of Sutherland is presidentelect of the Producers’ Association fol 1927.—Sidney “Sun” Cable.
