ACCLIMATISATION

WELLINGTON COUNCIL MEETING Mr. L. O. H. Tripp presided at a council meeting of tlie Wellington Acclimatisation Society last night A letter from the Eketahuna branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, forwarded through tlie Eketahuna Acclimatisation Society, brought to notice the considerable damage caused by hares to growing crops in the district, and the rapid increase of the pest during the last few years. It was desired that the Wellington society stress the necessity of removing the hindrances tn Hie destruction of hares in the Eketahuna district. It was decided to write to the Fanners’ Union, pointing out that individual permits could be applied for, and also that when the restrictions had been lifted in tlie Manawatu district farmers had been so pestered with trespassers that they bad asked that the regulations be applied again. Suggested rules in connection with a proposed Wellington Acclimatisation Society’s Research Fellowship, at Victoria College, were received from Professor H. B. Kirk. These were discussed, and referred to a special meeting for final drafting.
