CARTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL
4 Dominion Special. Carterton, September 29. The Carterton Borough Council met last evening, when the treasurer reported receipts for the month £lOl Gs. (id. (district fund) and .£3Ol Gs. Gd. (gasworks account). Accounts totalling .£ll9 Is. sd. (district fund) and .£314 2s. lOd. (gasworks) were passed for payment. Gas consumed for August was 527,000 cubic feet, of a. net value of .£250. A holiday will be declared from 10 a.m. on People’s Day of the Carterton Show, and the Wairarapa P. and A. Society were given permission to park cars in the several parking places on show days and to hang traffic-directing streamers in High Street.. The resignation of Mr. J. P. Curreen as bandmaster was accepted. The lion. A. D. McLeod forwarded a copy of the Local Legislation Bill, section 22, which cancels the reservation over certain land, and authorises the council to transfer certain land to the Wellington Education Board. The Bill had passed both Houses. The Valuation Department advised that in the course of the next, few weeks a selection will be made, of the local districts in most urgent need of revision. It is probable (hat (he revision of the Carterton borough will be undertaken. Tho sanitary inspector reported matters satisfactory. Tho overseer reported that a lire plug had been put in on Chester Road for the Racing Club. Tho matter of extending the gas nniins along Garrison Street nt a cost of £65 was referred to the Gas Committee for a report. The attention of the Railway Department is, to lie called to the fact that the street crossing signs require repainting. It was decided to take steps to deal with the speed at which cars and lorries travel through the main street.
