MAGISTRATE’S COURT

Mr. E. Page, S.M.. dealt with police cases in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Pleading guilty to a charge of stealing a quantity of scrap iron valued at «£B. the property of Stevenson and Ferguson, of Petone. William Robert Walter Mooney, a labourer, aged 26. was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment with hard labour. For stowing away on the s.s. Maori from Lyttelton to Wellington, without first having paid his fare Arthur Veitcher. a cook, aged 63. was convicted and ordered to coms up for sentence when called upon within twelve months. He was also ordered to pay <£l. the amount of his fare, within one week. Accused, who stated he had been drinking fairly heavily at Lyttelton, said be woke up on the ship without any knowledge of how he got aboard.
