HUTT DENTAL CLINIC

The monthly meeting of the Hutt dental Clinic Committee was held on Monday. Mr. Burgess presided. A letter was read from the Borough Council stating that consideration of the committee’s application for a reduction of rent had been again deferred and would come up for discussion in two months. The Hutt Valiev School Committee’s Association wrote stating that representations had been made to the Education Department for a subsidy on moneys raised for dental clinic work, and that a promise had been made that some assistance would be gizen. It was decided that application be at once made to the Department for a subsidy, and that on receipt of a reply a special meeting of the committee be called. The following recommendation from the Eastern Hutt School Committee was read:—"This committee wishes to bring before the Dental Committee the unsatisfactory position school committees are placed in by the delay of the Borough Council in coming to a decision on the reduction of rent of the dental clinic room: and view with apprehension the possibility of again having to make up the deficiency. We recommend therefore that your committee go fully into the tiuestion of establishing tour own clinic room and thereby reducing ,if possible the large expenditure foi ,ent.” It was decided that further consideration be held over until the special meeting. The question of raising funds for the current year yyas discussed, and it was agreed that the clinic committee should endeavour to raise funds on their own behalf before making application to the school committees. To that end Messrs. Burgess and Church were appointed to report. The nurse reported a total of 197 attendances and 130 children treated, an increase of 19 ami 4 respectively for three weeks operations, as against four weeks of the previous month.
