OBITUARY
♦ FORMER UNITED STATES WAR SECRETARY. New York, July 12. Ex-Senator John W. Weeks, Secretary for War in the Harding and Coolidge Cabttits, died at Lancaster, New Hampshire, after a long illness. He was in his sixty-seventh year. He served in the U.S. Navy as a midshipman. and afterwards took up a banking career on land. He was elected to Congress in 1905, and in 1913 became Senator. He was runner-up for nomination for the Presidency in 1916.— Reuter. WELL-KNOWN EASTERN WRITER. Bagdad, July 12 The death is announced of Miss Gertrude Lowthian Bell, Oriental Secretary to the High Commissioner of Iraq, and author of several volumes on Eastern subjects.—Reuter.
