ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL

SOUTH AUCKLAND OUTCLASS POVERTY BAY.

BY Telegraph.—Press association. Hamilton, June 20. At Hamilton to-dav South Auckland had no difficulty in beating Poverty Bay for the Brown Shield, winning by four goals to nil. Throughout the game play was mainly in Poverty Bay territory, except midway in the second half, when Poverty Bav narrowly mfssed scoring through Roots and Haworth. Poverty Bay lacked combination, especially tbc forwards, whilst South Auckland gave a finished exposition of the code in all departments. The halves were especially good. The local team led at half-time by two goals to nil. Roots, Hanna, and Easton were outstanding men for Poverty Bay. The lest gave only a mediocre display. They were not up to the usual standard, probably owing to the long-distance travelling. Moon, Chalmers, and Ashton played finely for South Auckland, who were brilliant at times, their defence holding the Poverty Bay forwards when dangerous. Moon obtained three goals for South Auckland, and Kennedy one. Manawatu, the next challengers, will play at Hamilton at the end of July. John McKinnon, on behalf of the New Zealand Council, presented the shield to Hall, the South Auckland captain, at the conclusion. Christchurch, .Tune 2n.
