LYING IN A GATEWAY
WOMAN CONVICTED OF DUNKENNESS. Palmerston North, April 9. “1 fouid her lying in a gateway tn Hereford Street quite insensible, said Constable O’Connell at the Palmerston Magistrate's Court this morning or a married woman of 36 years described as a domestic, who was charged with drunkenness and also with procuring honor while prohibited. Messrs. T. R. Hodder and D. W. Low, J.P.’s, presided. In continuing his evidence, the constable said that the ma.n upon whose property accused was lying could not move her. Witness arrested her when she came out on to the road and took her to the police station. Accusd: “I only had two glasses of stout.” . Senior-Sergeant O’Grady: ‘They must have been rather bi" glasses.” On the charge of drunkenness accused, who was a first offender, was convicted and fined 10s., in default 24 hours imprisonment, while on the second count she was remanded to appear before Magistrate on Monday.
