A Wanganui business firm which wrote to a Maori up the river the other day in regard to an overdue account (states an exchange), has received the following reply: “ I receive your most welcome letter yes sorry for that never mind will semi you £1 send the wrest next time thanking you you are kind goodbye' from your friend Kia Ora.” “It was not a bad drunk. Your Worship,” pleaded an old age pensioner when charged with inebriation at the Hamilton Court the other day (says the “Waikato Times”). ” I only had a drink or two and was then taken home. I am getting a bit old. too. Your Worship." "Is he a local man?” asked His Worship. Sergeant Cooper said h e did not know. The old man, craning forward his head, and apparently hearing imperfectly: “Yes, that’s so, the police have nothing against me.”
