A significant allusion to the negotiations in respect to the coal dispute was made by Mr. J. H. Thomas (secretary to the Railway Union) in a speech at when he said that he believed the trade had reached low-water mark, but he would be a hypocrite if he did not say clearly, having the inside knowledge which he had, that the next five weeks might easily determine the fate of the country.—Aus.-N.Z.
