MARANATHA. “epHE Spirit speaketh EXPRESSLY -A that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons” (1 Timothy, iv.). Last week we referred to the many religious systems that during the past few years especially have sprung into existence, teaching either that a great world-leader is soon to arise in the . earth, or that a crisis is at hand which will shake th.e whole world to its foundations. Among those we mentioned we should liiwe included the Spiritists, of whom Sir Oliver Lodge ana Sir Conan Doyle are the leading exponents. We have no hesitation in declaring that all these cults are a departure from the Christian faith as set forth in the Word, of God. They are in a most striking manner fulfilling the very Scripture we have quoted. We are probably in. receipt of a greater amount of literature week bv week bearing upon the subject of our ‘Lord’s Second Coming than possibly anv others in New' Zealand. We are‘amazed at the note of certainty that is now being sounded by the great leaders of this doctrine that Our Lord may now so soon be expected to come to the air and send out the 'gathering shout that will call the dead in Christ to rise first; and. then we who are alive shall be caught un together with them to bo for ever with Our Lord. The most learned Conan Doyle and Oliver Lodge of course, regard this as a most unlikely event, but men taught of the Spirit of God know of truths found in the Word never dreamt of in the philosophies of these no doubt wise men after the flesh. We wish we were able to publish in this column a series of most remarkable articles from the pen of the Rev. Canon F J Horsefield. D.D.. on “The Church and the Coming King.” These articles have been appearing lately in the .Life of Faith." and they make groat readin". Dr. Horsefield concluded the series with “All signs point to Christ s near approach, and full soon, as we believe, we shall see Him face to face.
