Ou Saturday, March 20, crowds of blue-clad girls could have been seen wending their Way towards the Te Aro baths, in company with their officers. The event was an important one, for the new silver cup presented by Mrs. A. Duncan, of Wellington, for the senior Swimming Guide championship, was to be competed for. The season is now a little late for swimming sports, but the weather was kind, and a large number of entries for each event added to the fun. In all, eleven events, including the junior and senior championships, were entered for. Mr. Colunib, assistant-caretaker of the baths, acted as master of ceremonies, with the assistance of Mr. Horn, who is a gold medalist, and Messrs. Anyon and Hunter, both of the Island Bay Life Saving Club. Great appreciation was felt for their keen interest and help given to the girls. Following is a list of the prize-win-ners. for swimming:—ll years, N. McGee, lltli, Island Bay Company; 12' vears, S. Stewart, Dominion Farmers’ institute Company; 13 years, H. Aitken, 12th Wellington; 14 years, E. Jones, Lower Hutt; 15 years, M. McCrae, Dominion Farmers’ Institute; 11 and 12 years, M. Raven, sth Wellington Company; 13 and 14 years, G. Eade, Kelburn Company; 15 years, M. McCrae, junior, Dominion Farmers’ Institute Company; junior championship, B. Aitken, 12th Wellington Companv; senior championship (Duncan Cup)., M. McCrae, Dominion Farmers’ Institute Company: diving. 11 and 12 years, J. Downhard, 2nd Wellington Company; 13 and 14 vears, K. Rhodes, Maranui Companv; 15 years, P. Hilkie. Dominion Farmers’ Institute Comnany; life-saving, M. McCrae, junior, D F.T. The prizes were afterwards awarded by Mrs? IT. Kirkcaldie, provincial commissioner for Wellington. Three cheers were given for‘Mrs. Duncan, the donor of the cup. and for M. McCrae, the winner, and finally for the men who had so kindly given their time to make the event a success, and for their otter to assist on anv future occasion.
