YOUNG DOMESTIC'S LAPSE. . Palmerston North, February 12. lust before closing time yesterday a young woman went into the bookshop ill tile Square of Richard Connor, and asked to be shown some fountain pens. A trav of these was produced for her approval, but she said they were too dear, and asked for others. .When the other tray was being obtained she slipped one of the pens in her, bag. The shop-keeper accused her’of the theft, whereupon she produced the pen and expressed contrition, but was brought before Messrs. W. McKenzie and C. Mowlem, J.P’s., at the Police Court to-dav, charged with the theft of the pen. valued at 255. Accused, who is a domestic, aged 26, pleaded guilty. Senior-Sergeant O’Grady, who conducted the case for the police, gave the details, and said that accused now said she committed the theft ou the spur of the moment. She was employed locallv. It was rather an unfortunate kind of case. Accused liad not had much home training. “You will realise this is a serious, offence vou have committed,’’ said the Bench, in convicting and discharging accused.
With the police in full agreement, an order was made suppressing the name of accused.
