PRISONERS SENTENCED AT TIMARU. By Telisguapii - PnEss Association Timaru, February 4. At the Supreme Court to-day, Stalllev Gilbert Tavlor was sentenced by Mr. Justice Adams to eighteen months’ hard labour for breaking, entering, and theft. George Spencer Pearse, who is now serving a term of three years’ reformative treatment, was sentenced to a further term of three years for breaking, entering, and theft, t the sentence to be concurrent with the present term. On a charge of arson, Pearse was sentenced to reformative treatment for five vents, to take effect on the expiry of his present sentence. AUCKLAND CASES. By Telecuaph-Press Association Auckland,| February 4. In the Supreme Court, Joseph Sturge Redfern, on two charges of incest, was acquitted. Tim defence was a general denial of the allegations, and also that the two daughters had given evidence because of hatred of their father. Evidence was offered attacking the character of tlie girls. Joseph Roy O’Shea, aimd 29. was found guiltv of assaulting Leslie Titchener and robbing him of £2O. Finger-print evidence by Senior-Sergeant Dinnic, WelImgton,' played nn important part in Ibe case. Mr. Justice St ringer remarked that the value of fingor-nrint evidence was now fairly established, nnd in nil civilised countries it was regarded ns of the utmost possible value. Accused was remanded for sentence.
