STRANGE BURGLARY

DOCUMENTS STOLEN BY THIEVES OF INTERNATIONAL INTEREST (Rec. January 21, 8.45 p.m.) London, January 21. A mysterious burglary occurred at the town house of Sir Gerald Talbot, formerly Naval Attache at Athens. Thieves ransancked his rooms and cupboards for papers, and finally forced a secretaire in his study and took documents which Sir Gerald Talbot is most anxious to recover at the earliest opportunity. He says they are of no importance to anyone else. A small quantity of jewellery and decorations is also missing. The “Daily Chronicle” says it is believed the documents relate to high in-ternatio-’-’l politics, and recalls that Sir Gerald Talbot was knighted in recognition of his services in the diplomatic field. His greatest adventure was the rescue of Prince Andrew' of Greece in 1922 from the custody of the Revolutionary Committee at Athens when the Prince’s execution seemed certain. Six Ministers already had been executed. Sir Gerald Talbot, by means which were not disclosed, secured an interview with the Prince and motored him to Piraeus, where a British cruiser was waiting. The Prince declared that his life was saved by the British Government’s action.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
