SOVIET DOCTRINES

EDUCATING AMERICAN WORKERS

LAST YEAR'S EXPENDITURE ON PROPAGANDA

AIMS OF COMMUNIST PARTY;

The secretary of the Communist Party of America states that nearly a million dollars was spent last year on propaganda aimed at the establishment of a Soviet Government in the United States.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Copyright. New York, January 18. John Stacliel, secretary of the Communist Party of America, stated that the Communists had spent almost a million dollars last year on propaganda aimed at the eventual establishment of a Soviet Government in the United States. The money was raised at public meetings and by private subscriptions, and was being used to educate the workers in Soviet doctrines, to bring Labour organisations into the ranks of tlie Communists and secure from the United States the recognition of Soviet Russia.

The immediate programme of _ the Communist Party includes a national meeting on January 26, at which honour will be paid to Lenin. Stachel’s statement was elicited as the result of a declaration made by Bion Hooker, a prominent publicist, that, while the Communists spent 700,000 dollars in 1925 with the object of destroying the American form of Government, a patriotic organisation with which he (Hooker) was connected had difficulty in raising 70,000 dollars for patriotic purposes. Stachel said tli#t Hooker’s figure of 700,000 dollars was an under-statement. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
