JOB CONTROL
WILFUL HOLD-UP OF MANUKA
Melbourne, December 26.
Thursday’s delay to the Alanuka is the eighth out of eleven sailings, and was again due to job control, the vessel being delayed while the firemen argued, sang, and fought on the decks. It was a most glaring and unpardonable case of job control, and represented a serious loss to the company. Six firemen were missing at 4 o’clock, but four of them returned intoxicated. At 5 o’clock they decided to leave again, accompanied by other firemen, but all returned to the ship by 7 o'clock, with the exception of one, who was replaced by another man, and the vessel sailed for Bluff.—Press Assn.
