A semi-official communique records the arrival of a Syrian envoy, en route for Europe, in erder to ask the League of Nations, in the name of the Syrians, to transfer the mandate over Syria, now held bv France, to another Power. —-Sydney “Sun” Cable. BOMBARDMENT OF DAMASCUS JUSTIFIED BY SARRAIL Paris, November 18. The Parliamentary Commission of Foreign Affairs and the Army examined General Sarrail, who detailed his operations against the Druses. He said, that the bombardment of Damascus with a few shells ended the revolt, and prevented a more tragic disturbance. Replying to questions. General Sarrail said that, although certain local British agents had not maintained tjie necessary reserve, he had no complaint to make to the British Government. He entertained the best of relations with the British representatives in Palestine. He contended that the Druse revolt was an episode in the Islamic movement.— Reuter.
BRITISH COLLABORATION TRIBUTE OF M. BRIAND (Rec. Novcmber z l9, 10.5 p.m.) Paris, November 18. A communique issued after the examination of General Sarrail, says that M. Briand during the proceedings paid a tribute to the loyal and cordial collaboration of the British authorities throughout the events in Syria, declaring that such collaboration would also be afforded in future.—Reuter.
NO REBEL OPERATIONS X ‘ (Rcc. November 19, 9.55 p.m.) Paris, November 18. A telegram from Beirut states that there were no rebel operations yesterday. A few bands were noticed east of Damascus. Repoits in the newspapers that Aleppo, Palmyra, and Dieu-ez. Zor have loincd the rebels are baseless.— Renter.
