EMPIRE EXHIBITION
LOSS OF TWO MILLIONS TO BE MET / INQUIRY WANTED INTO EXPENDITURE London, November 18. , The "Daily Express” says that it is expected that the guarantors, including taxpavers, will have to meet the loss of £2,000,000 on the Empire Exhibition. The people chiefly concerned are arguing that there should be an inquiry into the expenditure. The construction accounts are still uncompleted. It is stated that there were enormous excesses over estimates; for instance, the Stadium cost £600,000, which, it is believed, quadruples the estimate. A prolonged inquiry might not be necessary, but one simiuar to that of Sir William Joynson-Hicks, when the management was changed, would be adequate if the findings/ were published.—Aus.-N.Z.
