The Hon. A. D. McLeod (Minister of Lands) left Wellington yesterday for Hawera, and will proceed to Eketahuna to-morrow, returning to Wellington on Saturday. The Hon. Sir James Parr (Minister of Education) will leave for Auckland on business this afternoon. The Hon. R. F. Bollard (Minister of Internal Affairs) left for Ngaruawahia yesterday to attend the funeral of an ’old friend, the late Mr. Thomas Paterson J.P., well known and highly respected in the Waikato district. Mr T W. Rhodes, M.P. for Thames, arrived in Wellington by the Limited yesterday morning. The Hon. W. Earnshaw, M.L.C., and Mrs Earnshaw were passengers from Auckland by the Limited yesterday. The Engineer-in-Chief and Under-Sec-retary for Public Works, Mr. F. \ . Furkert, was a passenger from laumarunui by- yesterday’s Limited. The ■ Director-General of Health (Dr. Valintine) is expected to return to Wellington from Dunedin to-day. .Mr J. Hislop (Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs) left for New Plymouth yesterday/ and will be away on departmental business until the end of the month.

.V yesterday’s meeting of the Education Board, Mr. G. T. London congratulated Mr. T Forsyth, M.P., on his election to the House of Representatives, saying that his training m educational administration, as chairman of the Clyde Quay School Committee and the Education Board, had specially fitted him for the higher trust placed in his hands, and there was no doubt he would prove that he was able to deal satisfactorily with many problems in a satisfactory manner. Mr. 1. Moss added his congratnaltions, and expressed the opinion that Mr. horsvth would show that he was well versed in questions coming before Parliament. Mr. T. J- Clark, m adding his tribute, said that he could not help noticing how many members of Parliament had started public life as school committeemen. Mr. Forsyth thanked the members for their congratulations, and expressed the opinion that it would be a good thing if education matters were divorced from politics.

Dr Ada Patterson. Director of the School Hygiene Division, Health Department, left Wellington vesterday by the midday Auckland express. Commander' Webster, naval intelligence officer, accompanied by Mrs. Webster, returned to Wellington from Auckland yesterday. Mr Vincent H. Freeth, well known m the publicity business in this Dominion, and formerly manager of the Charles' Haines Advertising Agencv Ltd Christchurch, has been appointed advertising manager for the Gordon and Gotch Advertising Agency. Mr L. F. Avson, chief inspector of New ’ Zealand ' Government Fisheries, w ho has been in indifferent health for some time, has been recommended a complete rest, and will probably spend the leave granted him at Pembroke.
