The contest between ’Varsity and Poneke at Athletic Park tins afternoon should furnish an excellent displaj. It will be a battle between the dashing Poneke forwards and the brilliant University backs. Poneke have thus far had an unbeaten record, thongh they were morally defeated by Old W Saturday. Warsity have only suffered one defeat this year, going down before Petone by the narrow margin of two points. Both teams will have their full strength in the field, and, as only one point separates the teams on the championship ladder, the game should be full of ihtercst. A good display should also bo witnessed at the Basin Reserve, where Hutt and Old Bovs will meet. Marist will oppose Petone at the Petone Oval. Athletic will meet Oriental at Kilbirnie, and M cllmgton and Selwyn will battle for the wooden spoon at Wakefield Park. THE NEW ZEALAND TEAM. The New Zealand Rugby Union has received a cablegram from Mr. E. McKenzie, manager of, the New Zealand team in Sydney, stating that J. McNab, the Hawke’s Bay forward, has had to undergo an operation for appendicitis. W. Elvey, of Christchurch, the star wing-tliree-quarter of the team, and Archer, the Southland forward, are suffering from injuries that may prevent them from playing again on the present tom. The other members of the team are al) fit and well. 1924 v. 1925. The New Zealand Rugby Union lias received word that A. C. Cooke and I’ W. Lucas ('Auckland). K. S. Svenson, M F. Nichol's, and C. J. Porter (Wellington) and J. Richardson (Southland) are available for the match between the 1924 and 1925 All Blacks at Wellington on July 8. J. n. Parker ami W. C. Dailey (Canterbury) are doubtful, and R. Stewart (South Canterbury), and N. I’. McGregor, A. C. Robilliard, R. R. Masters, and B. B. McCleary (all of Canterbury) aro unable to take part in the game.
