POLICE AND SUMMONS ■ CASES Police and summons cases were dealt with by Mr. C. R. Orr-Walker, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Frederick Thomas McCormick was fined £1 for casting offensive matter on the street. On a charge of drunkenness he was convicted and discharged. Two seamen, John Burns and Thomas McDonald, for receiving goods valued at 10s„ the property of the Union Steam Ship Co., knowing them to have been stolen, were fined £5 each, in default fourteen days’ imprisonment. Accused are to be placed on board their ship when she sails. Joseph Greenwood, who pleaded guilty to the theft of £2 10s. from Harry Alexander Jeff, at Clinton, was admitted to probation for twelve months. He is to make restitution of the amount stolen. SUMMONS CASES. Charles Wallis wss fined 10s. for failing to notify change of address under tne Arms Act; a further fine of 10s. was imposed for failing to make application lor the registration of a firearm after changing his abode. Selling milk that failed to comply with the standard required by the regulations cost Margaret Hanrahan and Olive Scholes <£lo each. In the latter case, defendant's husband explained that he was responsible for the offence, which was committed without his wife's knowledge. The Magistrate pointed out that it was the holder of a license who was responsible for any 'breach of the regulations. Frank Andrew’ Macintosh was fined £5 and had his driving license suspended for one month on a charge of driving a motor-car at a speed dangerous to the public. For failing to stop his car and give his name and address after an accident lie was fined £2 and costs. ' Lionel Stewart Adams was fined £l, in default three days’ imprisonment, for stealing a cauliflower valued at 6d., the property of Peter Chan. For procuring possession of a firoarm without a permit, Herbert Cyril Hodgkinson was fined 10s. Robert Percival Lucas was fined a like amount for delivering possession of a firearm without a permit. Thomas Weatherburn, licensee of the Dominion Hotel, was fined. £3 and costs on a charge of selling liquor during closing hours. Alexander Johnson, charged with aiding and assisting Weatherburn to sell liquor after hours, was fined £2 and costs. On a charge or cruejty to animals, in that he did not provide sufficient shelter for a number of pigs, Willianj Hedges was fined £5 and costs. For attempting to board a train whilst in motion, Frederick Spencer Hill and Owen Thomas Wilson were each fined £1 and costs.
