ISLAND BAY AFFAIRS
The monthly meeting of the Executive of the Island Bay Municipal Electors’ Association, which was largely attended, ( was held last week. Mr. E. J. Colley presided. A letter was received from the town clerk slating that the footpaths on the Esplanade would be completed during April. Mr. J. O. Shorland was appointed to act as temporary substitute jepresentative to the Civic League, and was given full powers to act on behalf ol the association In the selection of candidates for the coining elections. The matter of attention to the Jackson Street and Melbourne Road steps and the zig-gag between Melbourne Road and Tamar Street is to be placed before the city engineer. It was decided that the question of a new post office, which was brought before the association by a petition signed by seventy electors, be held over until the annual meeting, when an opportunity will be given to the resident’s of tlie bav to express their opinion on the subject. A letter was received from the Wellington North Ratepayers’ Association with reference to the innovation of trackless cars or motors in place of trams run on lines. It was decided to defer action until next meeting, which is to be held in a fortnight.
