KILAUEA ANGRY
AWE-INSPIRING SPECTACLE (Rec. May 12, 9.20 p.m.) New York, May 11. A dispatch from Hilo says that Kilauea is angry. A dust cloud from the volcano, rising to a height of two miles, presents an awe-inspiring spectacle. The Government station reports that it is the strangest sight seen, for many years. Rock avalanches continue to thunder within the pit, lava cataracts aro falling from tho crater, and steam and gas aro escaping from crevasses. Volcanological instruments continue to give evidence of temperamentality in the ancient cauldron. Tho lava flow continues, with an unknown outlet, which Assistant-Volcanologist Finch indicates is probably into the sea. The sides of the crater aro falling, and the lava movement shows a sinking tendency. Minor earthquakes have been continuing in the neighbourhood, according to tho seismograph.—A.us.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
