FRENCH ELECTIONS

UNINTERESTING CAMPAIGN

PARTIES WITHOUT CLEAR ISSUES

(Reo. May 11, 5.5 p.m.)

London, May 10.

The “Daily Telegraph’s’ Paris correspondent says that Sunday will be polling day in France, when 584 deputies will be elected to the Chamber. The comparatively uninteresting character of the electoral campaign has been due to the fact that no parties have definite doctrines and no clear issues. This uninspiring indefiniteness may result in the strengthening of the Extieme Right on the one hand, and the Communists o>i the other, producing a movement toward extremes, which may be stimulated by impatience with the present Government on the ground that it has not coped with the problem of the high tost of living. Nevertheless, the general aspect of the Chamber may remain unmodified fundamentally, beyond a slight shifting to the Left.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
