FLIGHT OVER POLE

4 AMUNDSEN’S PLANS Rome, May 8. Amundsen and all his companions will flv three seaplanes in June from Pisa to Spitsbergen. The seaplanes are constructed of a new alloy, .which is not affected bv long immersion in The sea. and is able to withstand the severe buffeting of waves. The aviators will practice for a month at Spitz*Tergen. and will then set out over the Pole for Alaska, a distance of 1750 milw. which is beyond a single machine’s capacity without refuelling. Each machine will carry sufficient petrol for sixteen hours’ flight, and all will descend after four hours. One will then transfer its petrol to the others, leaving sufficient to return to Spitzbergen. The two others will then continue northwards and descend again after eight hours. One will then be abandoned, transferring the fuel to the remaining machine; and, with four men aboard, will attempt to reach Alaska in ten hours’ flight —Sydney “Sun"' Cable.
