FRENCH PRESS COMMENTS ON ELECTIONS GERMANY SHOWING HER TRUE CHARACTER * By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. London, May 7. The Paris correspondent of “ The Times” says that, commenting on the German elections, the “Journal des Debats” calls on Germany to say exactly what she means to do. _ Then the Allies will know what action to take. The “Figaro” says that Germany seems ripe for either monarchical or proletarian dictatorship. In either case it is the duty of the Allies to dose their ranks. “La Victoiro” declares: “If we had not occupied tho Rhineland and the Ruhr we should not have long to wait for the return of the Hoh'enzollerns.” It is generally assumed that tho effect of tho elections will be to strengthen M. Poincare’s position. Germany is considered to be now showing her true character. The “Tn trail sigeant” says, “Wo now have at least proof that we are only halfway on tile road, and that there is still a long trudge before us. We will get there, because Franco cloarly perceives where her duty lies. She does not wish to embark upon adventures ; but at the same time she does not believe in changing her direction.”—“The Timos.” POLITICAL PRINCIPLES MUST BE MADE CLEAR BEFORE CONCESSIONS CAN BE EXPECTED Berlin, May 7. Herr Hergt, leader of the German National Party, in an interview, stated that it was impossible to Expect concessions from Germany to the extent desired as long as the main political principles on which tho existence of Germany depended were not made clear. “We shall never impose still heavier economic burdens on the German people until the point of honour is satisfactorily solved.” —Aus.N.Z.
