TRAINING COLLEGE STUDENTS
4 —: ANNUAL TOURNAMENT OPENS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, May 8. The annual tournament between the Wellington and Christchurch Training Colleges opened to-day. The Wellington students were given a reception by the Christchurch association, Mr. J. E. Purchas (principal of the Christchurch Training College) being the chief speaker. In the tennis contest, Canterbury won 8 matches, 13 sets. 152 games; Wellington won 7 matches, 12 sets, 145 games. With If sets to play off, Canterbury have to win only four games to annex the championship. Wellington won the boxing championship easily. Contests took place in light, middle and heavy-weights, and all were won by Wellington. The debate on the subject, "That the time is ripe for Dominion selfgovernment for India,” was won by Canterbury. Dart (Canterbury) was adjudged the best speaker, with A M. Wilson (Wellington) second.
