AIRSHIP POLICY
CONSTRUCTION OF NEW CRAFT APPROVED BY BRITISH CABINET COMMITTEE , FATE OF THE BURNEY SCHEME By Telegraph—Press Association. —Copyright. London, May 7. It is learned that the Cabinet Committee dealing with airships approves of the construction of new craft, and will probably recommend the Government to bear all the expenses of establishing the scheme over the experimental period of two years. After that, it is likely there will be placed at the disnosal of private companies all the data relating to the results achieved. . C It is Dointed out that the fate or the Burney scheme is still in the balance. It is not improbable that the majority of the House of Commons, in view of the fact that four committees have favoured the scheme, will support the adoption of the Burney proposals.—Aus.-N.Z. LONDON-AUSTRALIA SERVICE FOR PASSENGERS, MAILS AND GOODS London, May 7. The “Daily Chronicle” states that following upon the settlement of the airmen’s strike, a new company is organising extensions of the air lines, which link by link will result in an All-Red service of mail planes, goods Dianes, and aerial sleeping cars, travelling regularlv between London and Australia. Giant planes are being built of metal throughout, with all the latest weight-saving devices. Meanwhile an expert survey of the airway to Sydney is being made. The route will include eleven stations: — Malta, Cairo, Bagdad, Karachi, Calcutta. Rangoon, Singapore. North Borneo, New Guinea, Port Darwin, and Sydney. It is estimated that tire express service will cover 13,000 miles in 1311 hours. The refuelling of planes in mid-air by means of winged “tankers” rising from stations is also propos'ed.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn. HELICOPTER FLIGHT Paris, May 7. M. do Michen accomplished a flight of a circular kilometre on a gyroscopic helicopter, occupying 71 minutes.
