LOWER HUTT COURT

Mr. C. R. Orr-Walker, S.M., presided over tho monthly sitting of the Lower Hutt Magistrate’s Court yesterday. CIVIL CASES. Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the following undefended, civil cases:—L. Tredinnick v. P. Anslow, £lO2 10s. Id., costs £6 3s. 6d.; E. C- McPartland v. A. D-evonport, £3 17s. 6d., costs £1 3s. Gd.; Alason Bros. v. P. N. McGrath, £l6 3s. 9d„ costs £2 145.; James Scotson v. Airs. R. Pagq, £23 Bs., costs £1 Is. POLICE CASES. Alfred Geo-. Cottrell was fined £5 and costs 7s. for using indecent language in Woburn Road, Lower Hutt. For ill-treating a horse by working it with a sore shoulder and back, Albert Walter Dixon was convicted and fined £3 and costs 7s. On a similar charge the case against John AlcVicker Corson was dismissed. Owing to their parents being in indigent circumstances, an order was made committing three young children to the Wellington Receiving Home, the mother to pay 10s. a week towards their keep. Two young men, Charles Burns Slater and John James Batie. for being on licensed premises after hours, were each convicted and fined £2 and costs 7s. Pat Nepia was convicted and sentenced to one month’s Imprisonment for disobedience of a maintenance order, the arrears amounting to £3 15s. The sentence to be suspended on payment of arrears and costs £2 2s. BY-LAW CASES. For riding a bicycle on the road at night without a light, tho following were each fined 10s. and costs 7s.:—V. R. Bond, W. Deas, H. Fraser. O. R. Hopkirk, E. Hunter, A. T. McLellan, Henry- Pilcher. J. Power, J. Rolf, and P. Atkinson.

Martin Baigent was also charged with a similar offence and for giving a fictitious name he was fined 155., costs 7s-
