1 SUSPECT ARRESTED

A suit-case thief.' who has been operating in the city lately, made a good haul from the vestibule of an hotel the other day. Two visitors to the Dominion had deposited their luggage on the floor while they were being conducted to their room, but on their return one of the cases —the wife’s—was found to have disappeared, lhe thief was lucky, since the case and its contents were valued at about £lO6. Other instances were reported to the police where suit-cases had been removed from motor-cars, and an inquiry was instituted bv Detective Codding-' ton and Plain-clothes Constable Johnston. , , Tho investigations led to the appearance before Mr. E. Page, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday,, of a middle-aged labourer, Joseph William Moore, on several charges of, theft of suit-cases and overcoats. The total amount involved was approximately £166. On the application of the police accused was remanded until Wednesday next. Bail was renewed in the sum of £2OO.
