SOME OUTSPOKEN COMMENT
(by telegraph—Special correspondent.)
Christchurch, May 7. Tim appointment of Mr. S. S. Dean, chairman of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union, to the position of manager ot the All Blacks for tho English tour, caused some outspoken and adverse comment at a meeting of the Management Committee of tie Canterbury Union. Are we going to let the appointment pass without protesting?” asked Mr. J. K. Moloney. , _ , _ , u The chairman (Mr. A. Dev): I don’t think we can do anything. Ihe annual meeting of delegates of the New Zealand Union left the appointment to the Management Committee. this committee appointed Mr. Dean. Mr. Moloney: Well, when the annual meeting left the appointment in that wav, it'did not realise what would be the outcome. The whole business seems to have been well stage-man-S’he chairman: Delegates appointed the committee they wanted, ana Mr. Denn is the committee’s choice. Mr. Moloney: The public will expect us to protest, anyway. I have several cbjoctions to Mr. Dean as manager. For one thing, I do not think he knows a great deal about the game. Mr. A. E. McPhail: I certainly think that the New Zealand Union now should send a coach with the team. The chairman: The delegates decided to send a manager and a delegate. Mr. McPhail: I think the whole business has been massed up. Mr. C. S. McCully (drily): It would no doubt be of great assistance if we could send Mr. Moloney home with the team. Mr. Dean would find him useful. The laighter which followed Mr. McCully’s remark caused the close of what promised to be an animated discussion.
