TILDEN’S WITHDRAWAL FROM TEAMS INVITED TO MEET DAVIS CUP COMMITTEE New York, April 22. Air. Afyrick, chairman of the Davis Cup Committee, wrote to Tilden expressing great surprise at the latter’s resignation from the Davis Cup and Olympic teams, and stating: "It is difficult to conceive your having any doubt whatsoever in regard to your eligibility. You have been invited to play for your country os the American champion, and as the American champion it never crossed our minds you would refuse or even hesitate to accept when called upon. You are eligible to represent this country in the Davis Cup." The letter concludes with an invitation to attend a meeting of the committee on April 25, when the matter will be discussed. It i s considered most likely that Tilden will be induced to withdraw his resignation, and a compromise will bo arranged whereby Tilden’s eligibility will be acknowledged without questioning the amateur rule. The committee’s ruling, it is understood, on this latter matter will be definitely settled following the coming tennis season. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

Myrick’s invitation to dine on Friday with the Davis Cup committee, pleading a previous engagement, thereby definitely rejecting an apparent overturo of peace. Tilden writes: 'I suppose you desire to discuss my resignation from the Davts Cup and Olympic squads, although your letter says nothiDcf to that effect. Had I knowledge of the official working of your amateur ruling whereby playing writers are held to be an evil influence in the game, I would not agree to play in the Davis Cup competition. Self-respect and the desire to maintain the highest standard in international sport leave me no course but to refuse to play until the amateur status ia definitely fixed.” Tilden concludes: “I concede neither the fairness -or the corrfectness of the rule. I certainly do not regard myself as a bad influence in the game."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
