CHARGES OF CONSPIRING TO PERVERT JUSTICE UNION OFFICIALS REMANDED (Rec. April 23, 9.20 p.m.) Sydney, April 23. There has been a sensational development following the holding up of the steamer Port Lyttelton, which a section of the Labour Council recently declared “black.” Seven unionist officials, Everden (president of the Amalgamated Engineers), Johansen (assistant secretary of tho Seamen’s Union), Heffron (secretary of the Marine Stewards), Shearer (secretary), and McPhee (organiser of the Shipwrights Union), Falkingham (of the Boilermakers’ Union), and McDonald (Ship Painters’ Union) have been remanded on. charges of _ unlawfully, among themselves and with unknown members of the Carpenters’ Union, conspiring to pervert tho course of justice by offending against the peace of our Lord and King, his Crown, and dignity. They are further charged with conspiring to injure the Commonwealth and Dominion Steamship Line, the owners of the Port Lyttelton. Bail was allowed. —Press Assn.
