CANTERBURY TOURNAMENT CONCLUDING RESULTS By Telegraph—Pbess Association. Christchurch, April 23. The concluding events in the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's Easter tournament resulted as under:— Combined Dbubles Handicap.—First grade: Hiss Campbell and Barlow beat Miss Nicholls and Tait, 9—3. Second grade: Miss Armstrong and Edwards beat Miss Lamb and Hall, 9—3. Men's Doubles Handicap.—Coxheftd and Tait beat Barr and Wright 9 —7. Ladies Doubles Handicap.—Mesdames Melody and Warsaw beat Mrs. Fleming and Miss Ward, 9—6. Men’s Singles Handicap.—First grade: Somerville beat Hammond, 9—5. Combined Doubles Championship—Miss Spiers and Sheppherd beat Mrs. Melody and Greenwood, 6—o, 6—l. Ladies Singles Handicap.—First grade: Miss Ward beat Miss Since, 9—5. Ladies' Doubles Championship.—Mrs. Melody and Miss Bowron beat . Miss Spiers and Mrs. Garbutt, 6—5, 6—4. Mein's Doubles Championship. —Goss and Greenwood beat Ollivier and Pearce, 6 —4, 4—6, 6—3. Junior Open Singles.—Barlow beat Hamilton, 7 —5, 6—3. TILDEN’S RETIREMENT* New York, April 23. W. T. Tilden, writing to the chairman of the Davis Cup Committee, reeardng the committee’s decision in reference to players who are also writers, said: "My self-respect demands that I auit. Your authorities have decided to regard me as a professional next year if I continue writing, so they must consider me a professional at the present time."
