RIFLE SHOOTING
SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS (BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Blenheim, April 22. The South Island rifle championship meeting was brought to a conclusion under mixed shooting conditions. The champion emerged in W. H. West (Renwick), an old Blenheim boy, who has a great record as a marksman, being runner-up on two or three occasions for the New Zealand championship. The tyro champion is E. C. Peake (Kaituna) . Following are the leaders in the belt series: —W. H. West (Renwick), 35-4; W. A. Kenning (Nelson), 349; H. H. Mclntosh (Blenheim), 349; G. T. Gardiner (Havelock), 317; W. N. Masefield (Coast), 345; A. R. Barker (Linkwater), West’s score in the final was the best of the match, and put his claim to the belt beyond question. Ilis win carriea with it the champion belt, a gold modal, the Stewart Dawson cup, and •C 7 4s. , , The winner of the tyro aggregate takes the Stead tyro cup, and the runner-up, E. Lawrence (Seddon), the Hannah trophy The Marlborough champion belt was won by J. A. McKay, with an aggregate of 220. The Murray cup, for the highest aggregate at 500 yards, was won by F. II Sharland, and the Masefield cup. for the highest aggregate at 800 and 900 yards, was won by Tyro Lawrence (Seddon).
