WAR DEBTS
PROPOSED CLEARINGHOUSE UNITED STATES WILL NOT BE A PARTICIPANT (Roc. March 18, 7.5 p.m.) Washington, March 17 The Secretary of State, Mr. C. E. Hughes, in a note to M. Jussorand, tho French Ambassador, replying to tho French Government’s suggestion for the establishment of an international clearing-house to fOttle tho war debts, stated that tho United States will not bo a participant in any clearing-house or other co-ordinating agency to deal with the settlement of war debts. Mr. Hughes pointed out that tho United States Government felt that the World War Foreign Debt Commission created by Congress for this work was sufficient to deal with any question relative to tho payment of foreign Government debts to tho United States. — Aus.-N.Z.
