MASTERTON SHOW In connection with the annual show, to be held at Solway on February 19 and 20, very liberal prize money and challenge cups are being offered, ine schedule contains classes in sheep, cattle, horses, Kennel Club dogs, woiking dogs, sheep dog trials. Poultry, flowers, sewing, horticultural, etc. Ihe association, is out this year to ochp® o last year’s show’, which was undoubtedly a record both in quantity and quality of exhibits. Big money is offered in ring events. Excursion fares and special train arrangements have been made. Those who have not visited. the beautiful grounds at Solway should make a special effort to do so. WOODVILLE SHOW Given fine weather, the Woodville A. and P. Association’s thirty-second annual show, to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday next, is expected to be a great success. There are three special features for this year’s show—an excellent entry of hacks, Jersey, and dairy cattle. The judging of the Jersey and dairy cattle will give plenty of. interest to the farmer, on the first day, as the judges of these sections will each have a big task in selecting the winners of the various classes. The dog. trial starts at 10 a.m., and the final for the first five dogs v ill be run- off on the second day at 1 p.m. Horse leaping, steeplechase style, and the maiden leap have a large entry, and these competitions should lx» well worth seeing. The horses engaged hr all the leaping events are of a high standard, such good .ones as Daylight, Bluo Moon, Rita, Sturdee, and others competing The second day of the show will be a big one for the hacks and ponies. There ate excellent ontr es in all these classes The afternoon will be taken up with horse leaping, hunting style, ladies’ horse leaping, and the pony leap, dog trial final, and musical stalls competitions. The programme is a very interesting one, and should please all showgoers. Picnic parties vill able to avail themselves of hot water on the ground, free of charge. HIDES ADVANCE IN PRICE. YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES A sale of Huddart-Parker preference shares at 20s. 9d., reported at the afternoon call, was the only transaction recorded yesterday. There was a demand for War Bonds, buyers offering £96 15s. for the per cents., 1938, and £97 ss. for the P.O. 5 per cents., 1927. Debentures were in good demand.- For Wellington Racing Club debentures buyers offered £IOB, for North Canterbury Hospital Board’s 5J per cents., 1932, £9B, and for Otago Harbour Board 5 per cent, debentures. £93. Bank of Australasia shares were steady at £l3, and New Zealand Loan and Mercantile ordinary stock at £B2. Firmness was displayed by Wellington Gas shares at £l3 12s. 6d. A National Insurance shares at £3 175., and South British Insurance shares at £1 19s. 6d. There were bids of 20s. 6d. for Adelaide Steam, £2 2s. 3d. There was keen American and Continental competition, especially for hatters’ sorts, of which Australian showed 10 to 15 per cent, advance, and New Zealand 10 per cent.
