TAKAPUNA ACCEPTANCES

TRACK WORK AT TRENTHAM

NOTES AND COMMENTS There was very little doing on the Trentham track yesterday morning. Most of the work was in the nature of lignt tasks, but this morning should see a good deal of fast work. There was a very heavy dew on the track yesterday morning, but the sun during the day dried this up, and the going is again on the hard side. F. Davis, who arrived over-night, was out with Highland, Queen March, and Nigger Minstrel. The trio look in the best of condition, and all are expected to acquit themselves well at the meeting.. Desert Gold’s brother is a likelylooking sort, and should be heard of to advantage during the three days. The Auckland-trained White Comet was on the tracks yesterday. He is not much, to look at, but his connections rate him above the ordinary. T. F. Quinlivan arrived back at headquarters yesterday from Ellerslie, via Woodville, , Scion' and Royal Divorce form his team for the meeting. Tigorland and En Routs have recently been taken in hand by Quinlivan who has also broken in a full-sister to Fool s Paradise. \ Merit was lame when she went on to the course yesterday morning, but she wont away apparently all right. Bonnie Friend, Heathcote, Stream, and Jackeroo leave for Foxton to-day. Trainers due from south this morn- | ing include J. B. Pearson with Martis, I Lucinette, and Clareina. and B. WorI maid with Giantkiller, P. Keene with I Ardour, and F. D. Jones with GlenI train, Economist, and Zaragoza, j Pelham, a winner at the last TrentS ham meeting, has been added to the 9 list. I E. Manson, who is riding at the Bay I of Is! inds to-day, will be present 8* I Foxton, and one of his mounts will be I Irapuka. . j G. Young is to have the mount I on Limelight in the Wellington Cup. This will be the first time the Solferino mare has been tried over a distance. 0. Voight, the southern apprentice, is to be on Ardour in the Wellington Cup and on Kerb in the Telegraph Handicap. The hurdle horseman fi>. Walls intends to be present the first two days, at Trentham. I Owing to there being no accommodation available, it is unlikely that lunch will be served at Trentham this meeting. According to a Waikato writer, Glover, who was employed by R. Hannon,, is. still off the active list with a leg complaint, and doubts are expressed as to his being able to ride again. The well-known hurdle horseman W. Ronnie, intends to retire from the saddle for the present, having entered into a business at Tauranga. The Beragoon geldipg Royal Present is again among the regular workers at Ellerslie. Before being spelled he was trained by W. Smith, but J. Chisholm has, him now. Northern reports say that ho looks wonderfully benefited by his spell. Though horses carrying the colours of His Majesty the King only won £BB3l in stakes last season, that is the best record to date since Kfhg George came to the Throne. Hi® Majesty did even better as a breeder of thoroughbreds, for it is figured out that 12 horses from the Royal stud accounted for 19 races, worth £11,469. The owner of the winner of the Wanganui Cup of 1924 will receive a very handsome trophy, which has just arrived from England, where it was manufactured to the order of Mr. Ewen H. Campbell, president of the Wanganui Jockey Club. It i>J «. gold goblet, and is valued at over £lOO. and i® to be enclosed in an ojik cabinet decorated with the colours of the club. It is a remarkably fine specifnen of the goldsmith’s art, and the owner who becomes possessed of the trophy will indeed be lucky. ' Tho well-known trainer S. Trilford has secured an establishment near Timaru, and in future will make it bis headquarters. Trilford left Riccarton for his new home on Thursday, taking most of his charges with him. RICCARTON HORSES FOR TRENTHAM CUP CANDIDATES AND RIDERS By Telegraph.—Special Corrcßpondent. Christchurch, January 18. Dame Straitlace and Finora have not gone to Wellington. Ardour left for Trentham to-night. She will be ridden in the Wellington Cup by O. Voight. Pilliewinkie is about again and is doing easy pacing. D. Cotton has been engaged to ride Winning Hit in the Wellington Cup. Winning Hit’s form this season is much below Wellington Cup standard, even winh a light weight. Gloaming looks bright and well for his engagement in the Waterloo Stakes at Trentham. He should start a warm favourite, whatever the opposition consist of. . Glentruin has been galloping exceptionally well at Riccarton, and she is certain to race prominently in any event she contests at Trentham. Economist is not engaged on the first day at Trentham, but he may race well later at the meeting, as he is in good fettle. Limelight is in rare good fettle for the Wellington Cup, for which she is the favourite in Christchurch. She will be riddlen by G. Young. Prince Ferouz has been one of the most consistent performers m the ,South Island this season, and he may get some more money at Trentham. Parody claims two engagements on the opening day at Trentham, and she will have plenty of admirers whenever sh'e starts. Many people would bo glad to know’ the stable intentions, but so far the only information available is

that she was an acceptor this week for the Telegraph Handicap. Wild Hind is in great order ’for his engagements at Trentham. On her best form she is very smart. Palestrina has done well lately. She appears to have a big chance in the Wellington Cup, but it is against her that she has failed constantly in important handicaps. TAKAPUNA ACCEPTANCES By Telegraph—Press Association.
