RINKS CHAMPIONSHIP POST-SECTIONAL PLAY TO-DAY By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, January P 7. The bowling championship was continued to-day in beautiful weather. The greens had improved aftei the wet weather, and were in good order. Three rounds of the rinks championship were played, and to-morrow tho remaining round will be completed before tho post-sectional play begins So far the following are the leading ,

THE GAMES DESCRIBED Of the fourteen skips who had won their first four rounds, three were beaten in the fifth round—lV. Foster fCaledoninn, Dunedin), G. S. Gordon (St. John’s, Wancranui), and W. Wylie (Newton). Foster, an ex-cham-pion, was beaten by E. Gagliardi (Edgeware) in a very close game. Foster was five points behind when the last head was begun, but drew level in a single head. An extra head was played, and Gagliardi scored one point. Foster, Gagliardi, Smith (Fitzrov. New PlymoYith), and Tucker (Victoria, Wellington) had therefore won four e'ames each. In Section K, Gordon (Wanganui), who had won his four previous games, was beaten by McCullough (United) by 22 to 19. Both men are experienced players. Wylie, with the championship pair, J. and J. M. Brackenridge, in his r : "k, went down easily to Melhuish (Petone) by 27 to 9. The Brackenridrm pair won the pairs championship in 1922. Z . The Christchurch skip Rennie, in Ip’s match against Dempsey (Lower Hutt) scored eight in the 12th head. A score of eight is most unusual in rinks play. In tho match between Smeaton (St. Kilda) and Kenshaw (Linwood), the former skip had 18 points on. the card before Kenshaw scored a point. Kenshaw, however, secured 20 in the name before Smeaton won by 26 to 20. In the first head of the match between Gatrliardi (Edgeware) and Robertson (Phoenix), in the seventh round, Robertson scored six and Gagliardi answered with a five. For the remainder of the game the scores were even, Robertson winning by a good margin in the sixth round. No fewer than six skips who had no previous losses were defeated, and four only remained undefeated. A number of well-known skips suffered their first defeat. They were: ■ Dr. J. I). Marks (United), J. R. Wylie (Kaiapoi), W. Feilding (Hataitai). J. A. Rednnth (Canterbury). W. Spiller (Sydenham), and, J. M. Thomson (Carlton, Auckland). The four skips wlio survived six games without loss were W. Carswell (Taieri). H. P. Dobbs (St. Albans), R. H. Stephens (Kelburn). and H. West (Edgeware.). W. Spiller was defeated by Smellie (Green Island) by one point. Redpath went down badly to P. L. Davies (Edgewarel bv 26 to 18. As a result, P. L. Davies. Spiller, and Redpath were equal in Section F, with five wins and a loss each. J. 111. Thomson suffered his first loss to W. Helliwell by the c-ood margin of 23 to 14. Fielding had a closer match when he was beaten by J. R. Hill (New Plvmouth) by 20 to 19. There was an unexpected result in the sixth round game between, the Dunedin ex-champion, J. C. Rigby, and H. B, Oakey (St. Albans). Bagbv had only one previous defeat, while Oakev liad lost every game, yet. the St. Albans skip won the match in a close came by 20 to 19. Another surprise occurred when S. J. Smitth, with only one previous loss, met T. C. Evans (Sumner). Who had five losses. Evans won rather easily by 27 to 15. Smith appeared to be off his game. W.
