A CHRISTCHURCH FIRE

LARGE BUNGALOW DESTROYED ON CASHMERE

HILLS

By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, December 2. A nine-roomed two-story bungalow on Cashmere Hills, owned and occupied by Mr. E. C. Huie, managing-editor of the “Sun,” was totally destroyed by fire last night. The house, which was built only eighteen months ago, was a mass of flames when thp brigade reached the scene. It is presumed that the fire was caused by a spark from a coke furnace lodging tho woodwork. A strong wind was blowing, and, owing to a shortage of water, the brigade confined its efforts to saving the adjoinng houses, which were in danger from showers of sparks. The house and furniture were insured in the Northern Insurance Office for £3OOO, which sum does not nearly cover the loss. A good deal of the furniture was saved from the lower portion of the bouse.
