CROQUET

The first inter-club matches for the shield presented by the Wellington Croquet Association have been played with the following results, says our Carterton correspondent:—Carterton A v. Featherston A, at Carterton, Mesdames Knutsen and Bathbone, 20; Mesdames Wakely and Vincent, 26. Carterton A v. Masterton A, at Masterton, Mesdames Pink and Feast, 26; Mesdames Weller and Staniforth, 9. Carterton B v. Featherston B, at Carterton, Mrs. King and Miss Biradbent, 22; Mesdames Ball and Ayre, 20. Carterton B v. Greytown B, at Greytown, Mesdames Gayfcr and Vile, 26; Mesdames Salter and Gregor, 16. The hours arranged for parents’ day at the Wellington Girls’ College today are from half past two to halfpast five, and from half-past seven to half-past nine. A wedding in which much interest was taken was that of Miss Berenice Blackbum, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Blackburn and Mr. Cecil Edward Lees, only son of Mr. and Mrs. T. 11. Lees, of Wellington. The ceremony taking place in Holy Trinity Church Gisborne. The Rev. Canon Packe officiated. The bridesmaids were Misses Nona McKenzie (chief) and Betty Lees, also a younger bridesmaid, Miss Colleen Blackburn (the bride’s sister), whilst Miss Sheila Smith (the bride’s cousin) was train-bearer. The best man was Mr. Cyril Butterfield (of the New Zealand Staff Corps, Wellington), and the groomsman, Mr. D’Arcy Blackburn (the bride’s brother). The bride, who was given away by her father wore a gown of ivory -satin and silver lace with a train lined with turquoise blue, georgette, and silver. The veil, of Haniton lace was held to the head with orange blossoms and she carried a shower bcuquet of white roses, carnations and orange blossoms. The bridesmaids dresses were of torquoise blue taffeta, trimmed with ’silvier, with hats of black tulle and lace. Their bouquets were of pink roses and carnations. The smaller bridesmaid wore blue taffeta, with pink georgette, triinmed with silver. They carried posies of sweet peas, carnations and roses, with maidenhair fern. Mrs. Blackburn, the bride’s mother wore a frock of dark electric blue, with grey lemon hnt, nnd carried a bouquet of yellow roses. Mrs. Lees, the groom’s sy,other, was in crocodile satin, with overdress of radium lace, and black hat with ospreys. She carried a bouquet of cream roses and sweet peas. Mrs. J. D. Smith, aunt, of the bride, wore, a grey marocain, with Egyptian embroidering, carrying a bouquet to tone. The reception was held at the homo of the bride’s parents.
